Ballesteros Sota, Severiano
b. 1957, Pedreña (Cantabria)
   Golfer
   National under-25s champion in 1974 and 1975, winner of the Vizcaya Open in 1974 and professional golf champion of Catalonia in 1976, Ballesteros began his victorious career in the major professional golf tournaments with the British Open in 1979, which he won again in 1984 and 1988, and the Augusta Masters in 1980 and again in 1983. In 1984 he won no fewer than five European tournaments, one American and one Japanese to take him to the top of the world rankings for that year. A regular player in Ryder Cup competitions, he was, after Tony Jacklin, the second youngest non-playing captain of the victorious European team in Valderrama in 1997.
